Meet Dr Adnaan Sayed

Dr Adnaan Sayed is a distinguished Radiation Oncologist based at Melomed Bellville and Melomed Mitchells Plain. He combines his profound medical expertise with a deep commitment to holistic patient care. Dr Sayed specialises in various oncological treatments.

Dr Sayed’s journey into medicine began at Rondebosch Boys Preparatory and Islamia High School, where he excelled in a broad spectrum of subjects and demonstrated his passion for science and community service early on. He pursued his passion at the University of Stellenbosch, earning his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) in 2014. His dedication to oncology led him to the University of Cape Town, where he completed a Fellowship in Radiation Oncology in 2024. He is now an honorary consultant and lecturer at the oncology department at the University of Cape Town.

Dr Sayed’s medical career was marked by his rigorous training and practical experience in some of the most challenging medical environments. He served as a medical officer and later as a registrar in Radiation Oncology at Groote Schuur Hospital, where from January 2008 to January 2020, he also conducted significant research on vulvar cancer. This led to advancements in treatment protocols. His community service tenure at Mitchells Plain District further honed his emergency medicine skills, enriching his ability to manage acute medical conditions.

Dr Sayed’s personal interests in sports, gardening, and cooking reflect his belief in maintaining a healthy work-life balance, which he advocates for his patients and staff. He is also an active member of the community, participating in various outreach programs and being a member of the Islamic Medical Association.

Dr Sayed’s commitment extends beyond treatment to encompass comprehensive care that addresses his patients’ physical and emotional health. His research and continuous professional development ensure that his practice stays on top of oncological advancements, offering patients access to the latest therapies and technologies in cancer care.
